That is the added awesomeness of IdeaPaint CLEAR. Just remember, the color that is visible on the wall will still be seen with the CLEAR top coat though it will have a subtle gloss.

Are there any safety precautions that should be followed when applying IdeaPaint?
Yes, gloves are recommended and the safety precautions outlined in IdeaPaint’s Material Safety Data Sheet in the HELP section should be followed.
What is the best way to prepare a surface for the IdeaPaint application?
Due to IdeaPaint’s high gloss nature, surface imperfections can be magnified. Repair any scratches or bumps on the surface. Allow spackle to dry completely. Sand, smooth and wipe with a clean dry cloth. Then, prime and apply IdeaPaint.
Should the surface be primed before applying IdeaPaint?
Priming is optional for IdeaPaint CREATE. If applying to a previously painted surface and the current color is desired, priming is not required. Prime a surface if:
- Application is on a new drywall surface. Primer acts as a sealant and barrier prior to installing IdeaPaint as a top coat.
- IdeaPaint is used to change the color of the wall. For instance, prior to applying CREATE WHITE on a blue wall, prep and prime the surface to allow the primer to act as a color shield. This will ensure that the blue does not bleed through the IdeaPaint WHITE colored surface.
- The surface is excessively damaged and has been heavily repaired with spackle and sanding. Priming is recommended to achieve the smoothest possible surface to fill with awesome ideas!
- Applying over a non-latex coated surface.
- Over wood, be sure to put a coating of sanding sealer on before applying CREATE.
Remember – follow all manufacturers’ application and dry time instructions for the selected primer.
What primer is recommended?
For most installations, IdeaPaint PRIMER, Kilz Premium, or Sherwin Williams Multi-Purpose Primer can be used. When installing IdeaPaint over a substrate other than drywall, refer to the IdeaPaint accessories.
What is the recommended wait time before applying CREATE over a freshly painted surface?
Review the manufacturer’s instructions for the paint and follow their recommendations for applying a second coat. If there is no recommendation, wait 24 hours before applying IdeaPaint CREATE.

MassChallenge, Akhil Nigam, President & Founder:
Entrepreneurs’ plans and ideas are constantly evolving and whiteboarding sessions are crucial to a startup’s success. We have covered all of our walls with Ideapaint. IdeaPaint helps MassChallenge entrepreneurs stay nimble and forward-thinking, by helping them ideate, strategize and collaborate all over our space as opposed to being constrained by conference room whiteboards.
Doug Wittnebel, Principal at Gensler in San Ramon, California:
IdeaPaint is a great product for designers, architects, artists, engineers, graphic designers, software engineers, and anyone who appreciates the opportunity to move beyond the confines of paper or layout sheets.
CreatingClever, Aileen Bennett:

Annika Levitt, 1st Grade Teacher, Kiel School, NJ:
One of the greatest professors I ever had said to me ‘you can think of teaching like an elevator; we push an elevator button and it doesn’t come down as fast as we’d like so we usually push the button again, as if pushing that button is going to make the elevator come any quicker. I often think of teaching like that – you can try to teach the same exact thing, and if it’s not clicking, it’s not going to click. But if you can grab a marker and say ‘let’s go on the wall and do it’, and it clicks, you’re not pushing that same elevator button. IdeaPaint has definitely given me different ways to teach; different approaches.
Don Carney, Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance:
Reports that resurfacing old whiteboards and chalkboards with IdeaPaint saved the District about 66% in purchase, installation, upkeep and replacement costs.
“I love having a space that evolves and helps me be productive. I use the IdeaPaint wall for brainstorming, keeping track of important dates, and even some playful doodling when I need a break. The kids love it as much as I do!” — Janice D.
“We couldn’t be happier with how this project turned out! Applying the paint was fast and simple, and the kids freaked out when we told them it was ok to draw on the table! It keeps them occupied for hours at a time, and that means less screen time, which is a big plus.” — Esmarelda E.

Design Inspired by IdeaPaint
International consulting leader Capgemini relies upon a team-oriented environment to create the best solutions for its clients. To aid in team building and support, Capgemini designed and constructed unique facilities known as Accelerated Solutions Environments (ASEs) in order to promote collaboration, teamwork and efficient problem solving. These innovative work spaces, located all around the world, feature IdeaPaint on not only the walls, but also on columns, cabinets, break-room doors and other surfaces around the facilities.
Scotts Miracle-Gro was one of IdeaPaint’s first customers. We think that’s appropriate since we both create environments for things to grow and flourish. Scotts headquarters is located on a gorgeous, pristine property. Management worried that the natural cedar walls would make it difficult to find interior space to paint. However, once Scotts saw IdeaPaint’s versatility, the company found many ways to put it to use. In fact, one executive painted a wall so large that he needs a classic wooden library ladder to reach all the way to the top. Apparently, that’s where he hides his best ideas!
An industry leader in the work boot and shoe market, Wolverine Worldwide uses IdeaPaint to help grand, “sole-ful” ideas come to fruition. Wolverine’s production and product groups strategically use IdeaPaint in work areas to help enhance idea development and ensure that plans can grow — because you never know when or where inspiration is going to strike.
Institute of Contemporary Art
Boston’s renowned Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) decided to increase usability and inspire creativity in a digital studio lounge by painting the entire 600 square foot learning space with IdeaPaint. Program Director for Digital Arts Studio Joe Douillette notes, “It’s absolutely unbelievable how the space is now a living, useful and energetic area. I feel like I was cheating the students by not having this earlier.”
